Roanoke, VA Mega Reunion Information

The Dillman Family Association is excited and looking forward to another outstanding Mega-Reunion. This year we will be hosting our 5th Mega-Reunion in Roanoke , Virginia August 12 and 13, 2010 to meet Dillmans in the Tidewater area. The DFA has provided a special invitation to all Virginia Dillmans and all genealogists to join us in Roanoke for an enjoyable two days. Many of the DFA members will be traveling to Hungry Mother State Park on Saturday, August 14th, to share in the Virginia Dillmans' reunion. Hungry Mother is just outside of Marion, VA.

The program committee has been working very hard to create a program agenda of interest for all genealogists. This includes our invitation to Dr. Guido Deboeck to speak on "Researching your maternal ancestors using both conventional and genetic genealogy." Our own Louise McKinney will be presenting "From Across the Water to Whitewater--a Dillman Story" and Andrew Stillman will again dazzle us with the technological advances in Y-chromosome DNA and overviews of how to use what we have learned with our very active DNA project, combined with the presentations by Dr. Deboeck, Ms. McKinney and Mr. Stillman. We're sure that this series will be of interest and benefit any and all genealogists, regardless of surname.

And if any of you have not seen Phil Dillman's "memorabilia collection of all things Dillman" and the traveling archives library he maintains, you are missing out. Phil's collections will be on display throughout the entire reunion and he will gladly share his "secrets" and knowledge of Dillman history. Phil has got it going!

Before getting too wrapped up in my own excitement please permit me to share with you why our Mega-Reunion is a "must attend" event for Tidewater and all other mid-Atlantic states genealogists. It was a tough job, but narrowing all of our reasons for attending down to five is a good start to learn about us and how we can assist other genealogists. A sneak peek at our planned program and bios of our speakers is provided to share our excitement and to solicit suggestions... So if you have a "tweak" you would like to suggest, we may find a way to incorporate your own inspiration into the plan. And if these two documents are not enough to convince you to join us in Roanoke, or if you are unable to meet us, joining the DFA, reading our most recent newsletter will provide background for your future genealogical thought and plans.
